Rossi: ‘We need more to stay in front’

Valentino Rossi was pleased to have topped the timesheets in Barcelona on Friday, but admits that he and Yamaha Factory Racing are still looking for more speed.
The nine-time Circuit de Catalunya winner edged out teammate Jorge Lorenzo by half a tenth of a second but is now searching for improvements ahead of Saturday.
“I love this track, it’s one of the best, and the M1 is always great here in Catalunya,” Rossi told motogp.com. “I’m very happy to be at the front, but it’s just Friday and we have a lot of work to do. We have to decide which tyre to use and in some sections we need to improve for tomorrow but, anyway, it’s a great tasting of the first position.
“This afternoon we went between the hard and the soft tyres and I did a good lap, but to stay in front tomorrow I have to go faster.”
Rossi’s most recent win at the Catalan track came in 2009, dramatically overtaking Lorenzo at the final corner. He last celebrated a pole position at the 2010 French Grand Prix.
