Marquez fastest in Phillip Island Warm-Up

Repsol Honda Team’s Marc Marquez has topped the Warm-Up session for the Tissot Australian Grand Prix at the start of the day on which he could be crowned the youngest ever MotoGP™ World Champion.
The Repsol Honda Team led the way with a leading effort of 1’28.905, edging out pole-sitter and closest title rival Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha Factory Racing) by one tenth of a second with teammate Dani Pedrosa third and a further tenth and a half off the leading pace.
Cal Crutchlow and Valentino Rossi completed the top five for Monster Yamaha Tech3 and Yamaha Factory Racing, respectively, while there was a light crash for Andrea Iannone as the Italian lost control of his Energy T.I. Pramac Racing Ducati at Siberia.
Following issues with tyres on Saturday, it was announced that compulsory bike changes would form part of Sunday’s race, with all riders requested to do no more than 14 laps on any single set of tyres after degradation levels on the new track surface were found to be significantly higher than anticipated. The winner of the race will become the first different victor since 2006, as the last six Australian events were all won by the now retired Casey Stoner.
Should Marquez end the day with a points lead of 51 or more, he will be crowned the youngest ever World Champion and the first rookie premier class title winner for 35 years.
