No surgery necessary after Marquez crash

World Championship leader Marc Marquez will not require an operation following his high-speed crash during Sunday’s Warm-Up ahead of the British Grand Prix.
Repsol Honda Team’s Marquez was caught out at Vale corner just moments after a crash for Monster Yamaha Tech3’s Cal Crutchlow. His bike would collect Crutchlow’s stationary machine while Marquez sustained a dislocated left shoulder.
On Tuesday, Marquez was attended to by Dr. Xavier Mir of the Quiron Dexeus University Hospital in Barcelona. Although injuries to ligaments of the shoulder were identified, it was also confirmed that the rider would not be in any need of surgery.
Following the crash on Sunday morning, the 20-year-old debutant was handed two penalty points by Race Direction for failing to demonstrate sufficient deceleration in the yellow flag zone. Penalty points are separate to World Championship points.
