Navarra hosts CEV Repsol for second consecutive year
Thursday, 19 September 2013
There is no rest for the CEV Repsol, which is back in action this weekend. This time it’s the turn of the Circuito de Los Arcos in Navarre, which with its modern facilities offers the CEV Repsol riders a unique setting.
In the Moto3™ class Dutchman Bryan Schouten (NED-FTR) retakes the lead from Marcos Ramírez (SPA-KTM) who led earlier in the season. The Dutchman has been helped by the results his Junior Team Estrella Galicia 0.0 rival obtained in the last race at the Albacete circuit, but he only holds a slim two-point advantage and will need to be careful. Jorge Navarro’s (SPA-MIR Racing) fantastic comeback has lifted him six places into third position in the points table.
Román Ramos (SPA-Ariane) continues as the dominant rider in Moto2™. After the move to the World Championship of direct rival Jordi Torres, the Team Stratos rider clearly believes that this is his year. This is borne out by his impressive 33-point lead over second-ranked rider Alejandro Mariñelarena, who had the chance to contest the recently held Grand Prix race in San Marino. Excellent results and a good run of podium finishes place Hafizh Syahrin (MAL-Kalex) third overall with 69 points. This weekend could be definitive in the intermediate category, since there are two races and therefore 50 points at stake.
Excitement is also on the cards in the Spanish Superstock 600 Cup: the duo of Miquel Pons (SPA- Yamaha) and Jorge Arroyo (SPA- Yamaha) are dominating the category, alternating first and second positions race after race. In third position overall, Jesús Alcolchel (SPA-Kawasaki) has experienced the glory of the podium on a number of occasions this season.
In Stock Extreme the struggle between the three CEV Repsol riders continues: Forés (SPA-Ducati), Morales (SPA-Kawasaki) and Silva (SPA-BMW Motorrad). With four races remaining, all are candidates for the title. A similar tussle is underway in the Spanish Stock Extreme Privateers Cup. Francisco Javier Alviz (SPA-Kawasaki) seems to have found his spot and has been taking podium after podium. But neither of the following riders ―Frenchman Mathieu Dumas (FRA-Kawasaki), nor the Basolí Competición rider Fran Rodríguez (SPA-Kawasaki)― is making things easy for him.
The Kawasaki Z Cup resumes after the summer break, with the 21 riders facing two races this weekend. The top two ―Alexander Mateos and Oliver Habib– who until now have demonstrated a friendly camaraderie off the track, will be taking their gloves off in Navarre; with few races left to decide the Championship it’s a do-or-die situation. Francisco J. Valera is in third place, 14 points adrift of the leader.
