Nakamoto and Suppo congratulate Marquez on 2014 title
Monday, 13 October 2014
Shuhei Nakamoto, Executive Vice President of HRC, and Livio Suppo, Repsol Honda Team Principal, were both quick to congratulate Marc Marquez on retaining the premier class World title at Honda’s home track on Sunday.
Reflecting on Marquez’s second title in two years since moving up to MotoGP™ with the Honda factory team, secured at HRC’s home track - the Twin Ring Motegi circuit - Suppo commented, “It’s very important. It’s the first time in history that Honda win the World Championship in Japan. So of course it’s something special. Marc did an unbelievable job as always. He proved once again that he is not just very fast but also very intelligent. He had to finish in front of Vale and Dani and this is what he did.”
“He really deserves this title, he’s done an unbelievable season and let’s enjoy the last three races!”
Nakamoto, meanwhile, enthused, “I’m very, very, very happy! Before the race I was so nervous. I’d like to say thank you to all the Honda fans for their support and thank you to our sponsors. Especially I would like to say to Marc, thank you very much for another championship.”
Asked whether he had given Marquez any advice on riding cautiously in order to simply pick up championship points to secure the title on home territory for HRC, rather than go all out for victory, Nakamoto replied, “I didn’t, because it never works! Marc is clever, he understands, so he doesn’t need this kind of advice.”
