“I was pretty happy, really,” Redding commented. “I know we were pretty down on the timesheets, but a lot of guys did their (quickest) lap times in the morning and then didn’t get close to them again. I don’t have the experience yet to go out and drop that lap time in.

“What I am most happy with is that I have dropped my lap time every day, which is a good point. I dropped a second from the first day to the second day and then three tenths from the second to third days. For me, that progress is always steps forward.”

Regarding acceleration, Redding went on to share sentiments with Drive M7 Aspar’s Nicky Hayden, who is also riding the all-new Honda RCV1000R motorcycle.

“We have got the engine running on full power,” he continues. “I agree with Nicky about the bottom power; when I follow Colin Edwards or Aleix Espargaro (FTR-Yamaha, NGM Mobile Forward Racing), these guys are just pulling away on the exit of tight corners.

“For me, the top speed is not that different, but just the initial exit. The Yamaha holds the front down and is driving forward – they generally look like they have more power.”

Redding will continue testing when the field regroups at the Sepang International Circuit for another three days from Wednesday 26 February.
