Josh McEachran has today joined Wigan Athletic on loan until the end of the season.

The move means the 20-year-old continues to gain first-team experience in the Championship, having spent the first half of the season at Watford.

McEachran, a product of the Chelsea Academy, made his first-team debut for the Blues at the age of 17, coming on as a second-half substitute in our Champions League away win in Zilina in 2010. Later that season he made his full debut in a 2-2 home draw against Newcastle United. In total, he has made seven starts and 15 substitute appearances.

McEachran's first loan spell away from Stamford Bridge was with Premier League Swansea in the second half of 2011/12. The midfielder enjoyed an impressive spell at Middlesbrough last season, where he established himself as a regular in the side and made 38 appearances.

He returned to Chelsea and was part of the squad which travelled to Asia for last summer's Here to Play, Here to Stay tour, featuring in two of our three matches. He has played twice this season for our Under-21s, scoring three goals.

After joining Watford in September, he made five league starts and two substitute appearances.

McEachran has represented England since Under-16 level, and was part of the Under-17 squad which won the European Championships. He has 13 caps for the Under-21s and took part in last summer's European Under-21 Championships.

Wigan are currently 11th and are now managed by Uwe Rosler, the German who was previously at Brentford having taken over shortly before Christmas. You can keep up with Josh's progress here on the official Chelsea website.
