INTERNATIONALS: TORRES ON TARGET AS SPAIN PROGRESS

Spain's quest for their first Confederations Cup continues after a win on Sunday puts them into the semi-finals. Nigeria go out.
Fernando Torres scored the second goal as the world and European champions beat the African champions 3-0. He is tournament top scorer on five goals, this time netting with a diving header having been on the pitch less than two minutes.
Spain manager Vicente del Bosque restored all the outfield players who had beaten Uruguay in their opening game which meant Torres, Juan Mata and Cesar Azpilicueta were on the bench with the striker the only one of the three to come on.
John Mikel Obi and Kenneth Omeruo were in the Nigeria side although the young defender's game was a short one. He was substituted after 11 minutes having collided with his own goalkeeper and injured a shoulder when challenging Cesc Fabregas. He was already playing with a bandaged head.
By then Spain were already 1-0 up from a goal by full-back Jordi Alba. Mikel, a scorer in Nigeria's previous game, went close early on with a shot deflected over by Sergio Ramos but Fabregas hit the post before half-time and Torres doubled the lead on 62 minutes. Alba scored his second with two minutes left on the clock.
Spain now play Italy on Thursday in a repeat of the Euro 2012 final. Uruguay take on hosts Brazil a day earlier.
