The Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park
Yesterday Evening the Miss World contestants were invited to one of Bali’s most unique locations. Treated to a first class banquet and a vibrant stage show, it was a memorable evening that they will never forget.
The Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) was the iconic location where the proceedings took place. A 240 hectares private cultural park at the southern end of Bali, the GWK is devoted to the Hindu god Vishnu, and his mount, Garuda, the mythical bird who is his companion. A vast area enclosed by steep limestone walls, huge statues of both Vishnu and Garudu, as well as vast areas of sculpted beauty make this location an amazing venue, and last night the place came alive especially for the Miss World Contestants.
A vast stage was set up overnight to accommodate a special performance of the Sendra Ramayana Dance. An epic saga of Javanese legend, the performance included over 100 players in vibrant and colourful costumes, typical of the rich culture of Indonesia. The performance was well received by the contestants, who received royal treatment upon their arrival, with a traditional Rajalaya Royal Gala Dinner.
Normally reserved for the royal families, the Rajalaya Banquet began with a procession of food, carried down the steps from the Garuda Bird Statue, all the way down to the contestant’s tables. This extra special treatment was put on to make the contestants ”Feel like queens” said Seno Andhikawanto, Director of Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park.
The combination of the magical location, amazing food, and spectacular stage show made it another perfect evening in Bali for Miss World 2013.
